Participating Schools

Global Visits is Free to Participating Schools

Global Visits is an innovative project that is in the formative stage. Global Visits is supported by an International Advisory Board of people engaged in international education, telecommunications, and development. All are serving as volunteers, and their donations have also helped develop the web page. Schools participating now will provide the essential feedback that will help further design the project, and give ideas to other teachers for participation.

Criteria for participation includes:
* strong interest by the school
* understanding of and willingness to support the goals, and
* access to appropriate technology, which at this point is low-speed access to the Internet.

Several schools are already 'linked' and preparing to engage in shared learning projects. Their activity reports will be posted on this web site. Potential projects discussed have included reading the same book and participating in on-line chats via the Global Visits Chat Room, and sharing book reviews sent as attachments. Also, reading each other's city newspapers to discuss how certain world events are being discussed and perceived by their individual countries. The best ideas are coming from the teachers themselves, once they begin emailing with each other and talking about their subjects, school and students.

Students can use the computer for the shared learning projects in a number of ways: sending attachments; digital research; instant messaging; and on line 'chats'. Thus far schools do not require high speed access as this would prohibit participation by many schools. Bound by our mission and goals, technology must not be a barrier to participation.

In short, the door is open for schools to participate in this exciting endeavor.
